October 24, 2019 is World Polio Day. The Frankenmuth Morning Rotary is hosting a Pints for Polio event in Frankenmuth, Michigan on this day from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the following Frankenmuth locations:
-Michigan on Main Bar and Grill inside the Bavarian Inn Restaurant at 713 S. Main St.
-Zehnder’s Tap Room inside Zehnder’s Restaurant at 730 S. Main St.
-Tiffany’s Food & Spirits at 656 S. Main St.
-Frankenmuth Brewery at 425 S. Main St.
One dollar from every beer sold at each location will be donated to the fight to eradicate polio. All money that is raised will be tripled by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Pints for Polio locations have been added to increase the awareness and the monies donated. Last year the club donated $6,000 with the help of the Gates Foundation; the goal this year is to raise $9,000.
Thirty-five years ago, polio was rampant in more than 120 countries, responsible for the paralysis of about 350,000 people each year. Currently in 2019 there are just 85 cases of polio reported in two countries, 69 in Pakistan and 16 in Afghanistan. Both nations have committed to fighting the virus.
Rotary International and the Gates Foundation have both contributed enormously to the global fight to eradicate polio, centering primarily on the dissemination of safe and effective oral vaccines to even the most remote corners of the globe.
Please join local Rotarians at the above locations to help in the effort to eradicate polio from the world.
